The manga has just sold 4.5 million copies in Japan
My Dress-Up Darling is one of 2022’s most popular animes. Marin, one of the leads is now a firm favourite with anime watchers, and every episode is greatly anticipated. But did you hear about the impact the anime has made on the manga?
Here’s what happened.
Sales boost
Launched in 2018, My Dress-Up Darling enjoyed a fair amount of popularity as a manga. However, it skyrocketed after the crisp anime by Cloverworks came out as part of the Winter 2022 schedule. It’s main characters caught everyone’s attention and fans increased on the daily.
In a new report by Aniplex, the manga for the series has now reached 4.5 million copies in Japan. This means sales have gone up by a million after the anime’s massive debut. It is important to know that these are not hard sales numbers, since some are the number of copies available on markets. But it does not hide the fact that the popularity is immense. Since the series is just a month old, with the fifth episode to drop today, it’s a huge deal. We can expect the sales to rise steadily here on out.
The story
My Dress-Up Darling follows Wakana Gojou, a high-school boy who wants to become a kashirashi. A kashirashi is a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Due to some bad memories, he keeps his passion hidden and never really fit in with the class. He often looks towards Marin Kitagawa, one of the most popular girls in his class who is friends with everyone. He believed that the two were in separate worlds until she shares an unexpected secret with him. From then on, the two worlds unite to form something magical.
