The first season of The Alienist ended two years ago, on March 26, 2018. The series has been renewed for a second season but there is no definite release date yet! Read on to know the confirmed details so far –
What is the show The Alienist all about?
The Alienist is a ten-episode limited series which aired on TNT from January 22, 2018 to March 26, 2018. It is an American period drama series adapted from the novel The Alienist by Caleb Carr. The story is set in the mid 1890s New York and stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning in lead roles. The trio investigates a serial killer who is murdering boy prostitutes.
The story mixes fact and fiction. It brings in iconic historical figures such as Theodore Roosevelt who plays the role of a NYPD Commissioner.
What to expect from the next season?
According to Luke Evans, the sequel may not be a tv series at all since the novel is too dense. He thinks that the limited- episode drama format is a good option since each episode works like a movie in its own right.
Talking about what he loves about the show, the German actor Daniel Brühl said to NME,”I love the gore and the dark elements. I find it fascinating because it’s in us, I suppose. At least in me. We are afraid of it and yet fascinated by it. Sometimes we don’t allow ourselves to express that we like darkness – that we have horrible, evil thoughts. But it is very human.”
As far as the cast goes, we can expect the trio to make a comeback with additional members suiting the story. The sequel is going to be based on the sequel of the original novel, The Angel of Darkness. There are plans to retitle the show on the same name.
The next season is expected to release in May 2020, weekly first on TNT then a full series launch on Netflix.
