As far as we know, the earth is the only planet in our solar system, our galaxy and potentially, our entire universe that sustains life. The only planet where native life flourishes and grows, forms complex societies and even launches into the space to explore the deeper mysteries of our universe.
Humanity is tough industrious and imaginative. As a species, we are practically indestructible at this point unless, we do ourselves in with war or climate change, but what if we tell you that humans are not the toughest creature out there and that the existence of more powerful lifeforms suggests the presence of life beyond the world.
We have identified an incredibly tough, incredibly fascinating that you must know about.
Meet the TARDIGRADES. One of the most resilient animals in the world, and possibly the universe. Tardigrades are also called the water bearer because it’s mostly found in water where it prefers to dwell. They are also minimal, and we can’t see it with our naked eyes. This species is ancient and even found in fossils. The tardigrades can survive anywhere. They were found in the high altitude peaks of the Himalayas, and even in deep trenches in the ocean.
But, the latest experiment reveals that the Tardigrades cannot survive if exposed to high temperatures for a long period. The chance of survival of this creature is inversely proportional to the duration up to which, high temperature is maintained in its surroundings. This property is termed as ‘weakness’ of tardigrades by many scientists.
Well, this study again proves that none of the creatures is immortal in this world. Tardigrade’s properties of surviving in extreme conditions can be used in developing human species.
