Rob Zombie is a known name in making horror movies. “3 from hell”, “The devil’s rejects,” “House of 1000 corpses” and “Halloween” are a few of his creations. Wanting to do more, the turned “House of 1000 corpses” into a trilogy of the horror genre. People say that the villains in horror movies never actually die, but Rob Zombie broke this tradition in the finale of his film “The Devil’s rejects.”
Rob Zombie created three characters; namely, Otis, Baby, and Captain Spaulding. And they killed this trio at the end of “The Devil’s rejects” during a nasty bullet fight. The convincing part was that, since the trio was fairly human, it didn’t seem impossible too. And people had moved on with it. And now, after 14 years since that movie, Rob Zombie has made a sequel to that movie “Three from hell,” where the trio is back.
Now, wait! How can three people come back from the dead suddenly? Fans have been coming up with different theories which might work, and one of them was, maybe after the trio was dead, they went to hell, and then Satan threw them out and hence they were “The Devil’s Rejects.” Some fans thought maybe Dr. Satan, who they introduced in Corpses, gained their bodies and brought them back to life. But the opening minutes of “Three from hell” rather gave a disappointing explanation which was lame and unsatisfactory.
What was the actual answer to the mystery behind the trio coming back to life? They simply survived the bullet fight. Yes, that was what the audience received, and we can’t blame them for being disappointed now, can we? You would expect Rob Zombie to come up with something smashing after a gap of 14 long years.
But “Three from hell” is just an aimless shot at making a sequel. It felt like a forced movie rather than something that he made out of interest. It’s an example of how some stories do not need a sequel. After this ugly experience and the injustice done to the legendary characters, we can only hope that Rob Zombie comes up with something better the next time.
