Two names recently got added to the list of celebrities who are being sued for fostering the 2017 event of Fyre Festival. The 2017 music festival, which was claimed to be ‘luxurious’ eventually came to be a fraudulent one. The Fyre Festival that took place from 28th-30th April and was supposed to retake place on 5th-7th May, in the Great Exuma, Bahamas was planned to be a music festival for promoting the Fyre app launched by the Fyre Media Inc. Some of the renowned celebrities promoted the musical festival over social media, particularly on Instagram. The fact that the stars were being paid for such promotions were not disclosed until charges were put against the event officials for being a cheat. Fyre Festival, during its initial days of commencement, faced grave problems regarding the food, accommodation, medical services, security, and several other issues. The guests, who gave up thousands of dollars to attend the event felt a considerable discomfort as the gourmet meals ad luxury villas they were promised of got replaced by prepackaged sandwiches and FEMA tents, respectively. The CEO of Fyre Media Inc, Billy McFarland, was found guilty of cheating the investors and ticket purchasers. He was sentenced for the imprisonment of six years and a penalty of US $26 million. The list of celebrities promoting the event on Instagram included Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski among the others. The paid promotion got the stars to get sued for being involved in such a fraudulent event. According to the reports and documents of The Wall Street Journal, the actresses received a payment of about $250,000 for their involvement in the promotional activities. The post has been deleted from Instagram following the fraudulent charges went viral.
