Depp to be compensated with $15 million
Johnny Depp has won! The legal battle between the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and ex-wife Amber Heard has come to an end. Heard was found liable for defaming Depp by publishing the op-ed through the Washington Post. Depp was also found liable for a statement made by his attorney saying to the Daily Mail that her claims were a hoax. Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million by the jurors while Heard received $2 million.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Statements
Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard released statements on their Twitter and Instagram handles. Depp thanked everyone involved for bringing the truth to light, while Heard said she was “heartbroken” because the amount of evidence she brought was not enough to stand against the power her ex-husband held.
Depp was not present when the verdict was announced, but instead was playing guitar with Jeff Beck at a concert in the UK. But he made sure to thank the jury, saying they gave him his life back.
Being In The Public Eye
It was a good decision on Depp’s part to present the case for the world to see, as he wanted everyone to know his innocence instead of a courtroom of people. We got to see various witnesses coming to testify, and saw the people Heard sided with. While Johnny Depp secured a major victory, this case has undoubtedly tarnished his reputation. Meanwhile, Heard is at a bigger lose, because the chances of her getting work again are looking quite low.
But we expect both human beings to start a new chapter in their lives, and lead it with honesty and dignity. Follow the full verdict on YouTube and social media sites.
