Will creator George R.R. Martin be shocked too?
Elden Ring, the fantasy epic from Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is coming out as a game next month. The gameplay and story trailers that they have released so far have got fans excited beyond compare. After all, it is developed by From Software Inc., the legendary studio behind games like Dark Souls and Sekiro.
Ahead of the game’s release, director Hidetaka Miyazaki had some interesting things to say. Read on.
The story
Elden Ring takes place in a realm called Lands Between. The story happens after the titular ring is destroyed and its shards get scattered across the Great Runes. This event came to be known as The Shattering. Once, it used to be graced by the Ring and the Erdtree that symbolizes its existence. However, it’s now ruled by the corrupted demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal. Players get to play as one of the Tarnished, an exiled being from the Lands Between. They must set out on a great journey to find all the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the new Elden Lord.
A ‘slight’ tweak
Miyazaki, in an interview with Game Informer, stated that there are certain changes. He started off by informing that From Software has created some inhuman monsters that Martin hadn’t conceptualized. Miyazaki recalled that Martin, when he provided the origin story, had made demigods in an almost human form. This was before the Shattering.
It was then up to Miyazaki and the others from From Software to interpret how to design them. They had to create beings that look corrupted by the shattered shards of the Elden Ring. But it seems like things will be much bigger than we anticipate, because Miyazaki believes that even Martin will get shocked by what he sees.
Elden Ring is all set to release on February 25.
