Spoilers ahead for Hawkeye episode 6 and Spider-Man: No Way Home
It’s been a massive week for fans of the Daredevil series on Netflix. It began with Charlie Cox appearing as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and his adversary Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) returning in the finale of Hawkeye. Kingpin last appeared in season 3 of Daredevil in 2018, and lead to the creation of Daredevil’s adversary Bullseye.
D’Onofrio’s interview
In an interview following the premiere, Kingpin himself had some interesting things to say. D’Onofrio confirmed that both Hawkeye and Daredevil‘s versions of Kingpin are the same and explained how Marvel Studios connected the two shows. He said that some dots were connected to the original canon as best they can, while other parts had to be left out. After all, the Netflix Marvel shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage were always loosely connected to the MCU.
When Fisk appeared in Hawkeye, it was clear that he was a lot more stronger, and handled car hits and explosions like a champ. But Fisk has always had an emotional side, which he brings out to appeal to other people and also manipulate them. D’Onofrio gave special praise to the producers who were very supportive in keeping Fisk as close to the Netflix show as possible.
What’s next
In the finale, we saw Echo or Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) confronting Kingpin with a gun and a shot rings out as the camera angle change, meaning he can return. Kingpin has always had exciting storylines with Echo, Daredevil, and Spider-Man, so we can expect him to return at any point.
In Daredevil’s case, it is now rumoured that Cox will return for two episodes in the She-Hulk series, before making other appearances. Seeing how Spider-Man entered a very different stage in his superhero career, we can see him possibly uniting once more with street-level heroes like Daredevil.
