Revisiting a classic horror, hopefully as good as the original
Pumpkinhead was the directorial debut of the late Stan Winston, who was a special effects genius in the ’80s, thanks to movies like Terminator and Aliens. According to reports by Bloody Disgusting, the movie is getting a remake with Paramount Players attached to the project.
The news outlet reported that script on the movie has been finished, and the makers are gearing up for production. The movie will now be looking for a director.
The original
The first Pumpkinhead released in 1988, a time when slasher movies were widely dominating the box office. It tells the story of Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen), who seeks revenge on a group of teenagers for his son’s death. He seeks the help of a local witch and summons a vengeful demon named Pumpkinhead. He orders Pumpkinhead to hunt and kill the children. But he later finds a bond between himself and the monster, and decides to fight and end the creature’s killing spree before it gets out of hand.
While the movie didn’t win big at the box office, it slowly earned a passionate following in the years that followed, and soon became a cult classic. However, the three sequels that were released to keep the franchise alive failed big time. The demon also had some comics to his name.
Last update
The last update about the movie came from producer Peter Block in 2019. He said he was a fan of the original, and that it should have a reboot. However, his plans didn’t get updated after the pandemic happened. We are yet to know if he’s still part of the current remake, and if they will officially announce the project.
