The movie has potential to be one of the best MCU movies yet
One of the most exciting projects to arrive from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is without a doubt, Fantastic Four. The four-person superhero team, which consists of Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing made their debut in 1961. However, making a good live action adaptation of the movies has proven difficult.
The movies’ history
Famously enough, the first official Fantastic Four film was never released to theatres, and was made by filmmaker Roger Corman so that the property’s rights-holders can maintain their claim. Fox then tried to make their own version in 2005, and had Captain America Chris Evans’s first superhero entry as Johnny Storm. The movie received enough success to get a sequel, which didn’t work. The movie got rebooted in 2015 by Josh Trank. However, it went through numerous reshoots, and in the end Trank disowned it.
Things took a better turn when rights for the movies went to Disney in 2019, and MCU president Kevin Feige wasted no time to announce that the foursome will return to the big screens. The movie will be directed by the MCU’s Spider-Man director Jon Watts.
Phase 4 new production dates
Marvel has a very full slate in the coming years, now that they are making limited series for Disney+. And Fantastic Four has received a 2023 date to begin production. SO it will be at least 2024 until we see the movie. Now that the dates have been announced, what remains to be seen is the casting.
As we are seeing from 2008, Marvel is very on-point when it comes to casting their heroes. And if you remember, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Tom Holland were lesser-known actors before they got scouted by the MCU. There is no doubt we will get someone excellent for the new Fantastic Four. Announcements can start coming as soon as late 2022.
