Netflix is taking its K-Drama content to the moon with this one
Netflix keeps coming up with one great show after the next from South Korea, and this time it’s a space story with The Silent Sea. The list of K-Dramas coming to the streamer this year looks promising, but this might be the best one yet.
The Silent Sea is an upcoming Netflix Original sci-fi series directed by Choi Hang-yong. It’s screenplay is written by Park Eun-Kyo who also helped in adapting Choi Hang-yong’s 2014 short film The Sea of Tranquility into a tv series. This investment stands apart from the massive $500 million that the streamer has paid for acquiring South Korean content.
Release date, filming status and episode count
Release date for The Silent Sea has not been revealed by Netflix, but we do know that it will be coming sometime in 2020.
As per Han Cinema, the series began filming in August 2020. Currently, we don’t have any clue if it’s wrapped up with the production, but its clear that the makers are doing the finishing touches as the first-look images have been released.
As for the number of episodes, it has been confirmed that The Silent Sea is going to have a total of 8 episodes. The runtimes haven’t been confirmed, but it can be anywhere between 45 minutes and one hour, as is common with K-Dramas.
The story
The story takes place in the not-so-distant future, where the earth is dying and slowly getting desertification. The only chance of Earth’s survival rests in the hands of a specialist team who are tasked to retrieve a mysterious sample from the Balhae Base research station located on the moon. The rest of the story shows the various encounters they have.
