It’s a Russo Brothers’ Product!
Epic Games got a major directing force for the cinematic trailer of Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 6 – The Russo Brothers known for directing Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The trailer was sort of a Ready Player One final battle moment where a massive crossover battle was taking place. It featured legendary characters like God of War‘s Kratos to Halo‘s Master Chief.
How the Russos came on board
While speaking to Variety on working with the game, Anthony and Joe Russo thanked Epic Games chief creative officer Donald Mustard for allowing them to work on the trailer, which was a visual treat throughout. Mustard later explained that “Primal” is Fortnite‘s “most story-driven event” to date, and so Epic required a laid of directors who could tell it in “a really authentic and character-driven way.”
Mustard felt that the Russos were just the men for the job, and soon they were hired to write, storyboard and direct not just the “Primal ” cinematic trailer but for the yet-to-be-revealed story material for season 6. Gaming journalist Imran Khan made a humorous tweet about how the Russos decided to use Street Fighter‘s Ryu to destroy the banana mascot Peely with a Hadouken.
No Marvel heroes
Fortnite is now known as a game with the most number of guest characters, which includes Marvel superheroes. The latest one to join the battle is Ant-Man, but sadly, none of the heroes were featured in the “Primal” trailer by the Russo Brothers.
However, they could appear in the future. For now, enjoy watching Sara Conner from the Terminator gunning down Alien Xenomorphs.
