Biden is looking to have everyone ready to be vaccinated by May 1

President Joe Biden is planning to announce that all American adults will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine by May 1.

As per the White House, Biden is looking to speed up the vaccination process, including directing states and local governments to end their restrictions on those that can be inoculated. However, it does not mean that everyone will be vaccinated by May 1, but that anyone can sign up for an appointment.

Efforts for more people to get vaccinated is also something the president plans to announce, and that includes making it available at more than 20,000 pharmacies across the country. The ultimate goal is to get the country “closer to normal” by the 4th of July, which is the US’s Independence Day.

Biden is also looking to deploy more than 4,000 active duty troops for lending support to the vaccination efforts. The White House added that he’s looking to expand the list of professionals who are qualified to administer the shots, such as dentists, optometrists, podiatrists and also veterinarians.

Additionally, the administration will be launching a website by May 1 for people to find locations to get vaccinated, along with a 1-800 call center.

Biden is also going to announce their plans on reopening schools, with $130 billion set aside from the American Rescue Plan for every location to accommodate safety measures and things like smaller class sizes. Money will be provided for regular screening testing, according to the new law. Biden had already announced that all teachers will be getting their first COVID-19 shot by the end of this month. A national Safe School Reopening Summit will be hosted by the end of this month by the Department of Education.
