As The Planet Gets Hotter, Climate Change May Wake Up an Ancient El Niño System

Learn more about the dangerous situation we’ve landed ourselves in

We have been taking the resources around us for granted, and have been giving toxic fumes to the earth in return. And due to that, we’ve been experiencing its harsh reality called global warming. The latest in this global warming crisis is the possible awakening of an ancient system called the El Niño system, which might affect the Indian Ocean.

What is the El Niño system?

The El Niño weather system is the warm phase of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation and is associated with a band of warm ocean water that develops in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific, including the area off the Pacific coast of South America. It’s located off the coast of Peru and Ecuador and has had connections to the drought in Australia and the heavy downpour in South America. But now it’s danger level has been amplified due to climate change. But the one that’s going to happen is more of a prehistoric version of the El Niño.

A recent study shows that tiny changes in temperature in the Indian Ocean are getting to the same level as the one in the Pacific Ocean, and by 2020 will be on par with each other. The last time a similar event occurred was during the last ice age, about 21,000 years ago.

This will result in a rise in occurrences of storms, floods, and droughts around the Indian Ocean, and will turn into a major threat to those residing across Africa, Asia, and Australia.

Scientists stick to their warnings; that our planet is being reshaped into something entirely different due to global warming, and we are the only ones who can bring control to it.
