Akon has brought himself a city in Senegal which he’s named it after himself

The popular American rapper Akon from Senegalese descent has signed a deal which made him the owner of his own city in his home country Senegal. He has brought a city in the Republic of Senegal and has named it after himself ‘Akon City.’

He broke the news on his social media accounts on Monday, 13th January. The 46-year-old uploaded a picture of himself holding a contract agreement of his new city. In the caption, he wrote that he has just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. “Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” he added.

The city will have its own economy based around his very own cryptocurrency called AKoin. It will trade only in the digital cash currency, as per a video posted on Facebook. Akon who is also a successful entrepreneur developed this cryptocurrency with a motto of “One Africa. One Coin.”

It was launched in 2019 with a vision to stimulate and innovate, revenue-generating opportunities. An initiative to support and empower youth entrepreneurship, economic stability, and growth across Africa and the world. It will be available in 54 countries in Africa.

Akon’s plans for the city were announced by him in 2018. He had apprised his plans for a futuristic Crypto city, which he said would be built on the 2,000 acres land gifted to him by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

In an interview last year, Akon claimed that the city would run completely on renewable energy and have its own airport. The construction would take almost a decade to get completed.

Akon’s Crypto City website detailed the geographical location of this newest addition. It read that the city is within 5 minutes of the new international airport, close to the coast and a short drive from Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, which is Akon’s ancestral homeland.
