The Case Study of Vanitas is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki, and began serialization from December 2015. The story is set in 19th century Paris, and has vampire and steampunk themes. It begins with a vampire named Noé Archiviste meeting Vanitas, a self proclaimed human doctor for vampires.

Vanitas claimed that he was able to cure vampires of malnomen, the predatory urge that causes them to attack humans and drink their blood. He shows her a book called The Book of Vanitas, which had connection to the original Vanitas, also known as the Vampire of the Blue Moon, hated by every vampire of the Red Moon. Noé teams up with this ambitious doctor to cure vampires of their sickness, but soon comes across an unknown being called Charlatan, who may have had a habit in vampires behaving this way.
