The movie will re-tell the original story, but with many elements
We are less than a week away before the theatrical release of Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive – Aria of a Starless Night. The movie will hit theatres in Japan on October 30, and will release internationally on December 3 via Funimation and Aniplex. It will retell the original story from the Aincrad arc of the anime’s first season. However, it will feature new animation, new perspectives, and some new characters as well.
We can expect to see more of Asuna as well. Ahead of the movie’s release, a final trailer was released on the official Twitter account of the series. In the 15-second clip, we got to see some of the fights of the first floor.
The movie takes place long before the Lightning Flash and The Black Swordsman got their names. Asuna Yuuki was a third-year middle chool student who had never played an online game in her life. But she, along with many other players logged into Sword Art Online, the world’s first VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) on November 6, 2022. But soon, everyone figured out that they were somehow trapped inside the game when the Game Master denies any of them to log out.
To their horror, the Game Master gives them their next command. It was, “This may be a game, but it’s not something you play.” In short, if any player dies in-game, they die in the real world as well. All the players start panicking, and everything goes haywire.
Asuna, despite being a newbie, and not knowing the rules of this new world, sets out to conquer the floating iron castle, Aincrad. Thus begins her journey, where death is close at her footsteps. Asuna fights with her whole might, until a fateful encounter brings her face to face with Kirito, a swordsman.
Don’t miss the rebooted movie when it arrives on December 2.
