PRAIRIEVILLE – Mystikal, a rapper from New Orleans who has twice been charged with rape in the last 20 years, was arrested on a third count of suspected sex offenses and was lodged in the Ascension Parish Jail.
According to arrest records, Michael Tyler, 52, also known by his stage name Mystikal, was detained on Sunday and booked on a number of offenses, including first-degree rape and false imprisonment.
After allegedly sexually assaulting his hairstylist in 2004, Mystikal was accused of sexual crimes, according to news sources. After being arrested, he was imprisoned for six years, and after his release, he registered as a sex offender.
In 2017, he was detained once more after turning himself in to police in response to learning that an arrest warrant had been issued for him in connection with an alleged assault that took place in a casino in Shreveport. After the 2017 accusations were eventually dismissed, Mystikal was granted a $3 million bond and allowed to leave jail.
As of Monday morning, no bond had been set for the rapper’s most recent detention. His full list of accusations includes simple robbery, domestic violence battery, false imprisonment, and simple criminal property damage. He was also charged with first-degree rape.
