From Russia with Surprises!
The championship battle of this year in Formula 1 is heating up nicely. This weekend the F1 was back in Sochi, Russia. And boy oh boy what a race that was! From Lando Norris out qualifying Lewis Hamilton to Lewis Hamilton taking his late victory to the race. The Saturday Qualifying took a major turn when McLaren, Ferrari, and Williams were the Top 3 of the grid with Mclaren’s Lando Norris taking the pole for the first time in Formula 1.
From the last race incident, Max Verstappen had 3 place grid penalty and took another one to change his power unit due to which he started from 20th position. Charles Leclerc, Valtteri Bottas, Antonio Giovinazzi, and Nicholas Latifi took the penalties for changing their power units. Lando Norris took his lead back from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz after some time in the race and led the race almost till the race. George Russell too lost his position of 3rd after his first pit stop. The attention was fully on the Norris-Hamilton battle for 1st position.
Umbrellas Out and the whole race changed!
Despite the possibility of rain, the race was dry but at the end with 5 laps remaining the rain started to pour and all the drivers pitted for the change of tires. Both Hamilton and Norris denied the calls to the pit stop and continued the race. But At the end of 3 laps, Hamilton took the tyre change emerging behind Norris. But Norris denied the calls, the gap started to close between them. And on the penultimate lap, Norris slipped off in the corner which cost him his maiden win.
As for Hamilton he took the lead and won his 100th race. After the rain started pouring Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll hit Sebastian Vettel and Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly which ended with him given a 10-second time penalty after the race.
Verstappen took his amazing drive to the next level by completing 2nd, from 20th to 2nd. Carlos Sainz went on to win 3rd position in the race. Lando Norris was chosen Driver of the Day for his amazing drive yesterday. With Russian GP concluding, the championship is led by Lewis Hamilton with Max Verstappen with just 2 points behind.
