“Lilyhammer’s” 10 Year Anniversary

February 6, 2022 marks ten years of “Lilyhammer” on Netflix. The streaming service produced it’s first original series a decade ago. “Lilyhammer” premiered on February , 2012. In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of it’s release, Netflix released a video Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO of the streaming platform in conversation with Van Zandt. The two talked the memories of making the series. Steven Van Zandt, also acted in “Lilyhammer”.

“Lilyhammer”, is a  Norwegian–American drama that revolves around Frank Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt), a former gangster about to testify against his boss. Later, when things go south, he flees New York and heads to Norway.

CEO’s Interview

Ted Sarandos explained the story behind the production. The creators of the show Eilif Skodvin and Anne Bjørnstad brought the script to Van Zandt. And later, Van Zandt approached Sarandos. Although Van Zandt was a little reluctant about dropping the whole season altogether, but Sarandos convinced him.

During their conversation Van Zandt revealed that Netflix provided him freedom. He stated that Sarandos put his trust in him and that too with a new venture of his. That took courage.

A Platform Changing Lifestyle

A lot of other famous shows followed “Lilyhammer” for example House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black. “Lilyhammer”  pioneered the original Netflix shows. That was the beginning of the biggest streaming service. As of now, it has over 221.8 million subscribers all across the world. 190 countries have access to the platform.  It was founded in 1997 in Scotts Valley, California and it features about 850 original series.

At one point of time n 2019, Netflix managed to generate more traffic than Google. Netflix, in just a few years has changed the way people watch T.V. and movies completely. However, it continues to face tough competition each year.
