James Gunn Talks Writing ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ was a lot of fun
James Gunn is one of the most popular directors in Hollywood right now. His work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, particularly the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, has made him a household name. He is currently in the middle of filming his final Guardians movie, but he took some time out recently to talk about his latest project: the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
The Guardians will take action in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special to help Peter Quill rediscover his love of Christmas by giving him a gift from his favorite actor, Kevin Bacon.
James Gunn wrote the special in just a few hours, and he says it was a lot of fun. The special will air on ABC this holiday season, and it will feature the Guardians teaming up with some of their friends from the Marvel Universe to save Christmas. Gunn says the special will be full of surprises and that fans of the Guardians franchise will not want to miss it.
In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn shared that it’s a big movie where it is beyond and different from special because special means are wacky and insane for him. He adds on saying, “I still have a ton of visual effect shots I’m working on, and of course, putting the score together with John Murphy, which is gigantic. So those are the things I’ve been focusing on most, lately.”
James Gunn didn’t reveal much about the tortuous trips in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but his complicated relationship with the Marvel franchise and the next final MCU movies may have provided some clues. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in the midst of post-production, which James Gunn describes as “emotional.”
He says that the film will conclude the stories of all the main characters, and it will be a fitting end to the franchise. James says that he is very excited for fans to see the film, and he thinks they will be very satisfied with how it all ends.
