The artist had previously won 3 awards at the Melon
IU (real name Lee Ji-eun) had been busy acting in dramas over the past 4 years, and had not actively been in the music scene since 2017, despite winning Gallup Korea’s Singer of the Year in that very year. You might have seen her in the teen drama Dream High, You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin, Pretty Man, The Producers, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, My Mister, Persona, and Hotel del Luna.
However, she made her grand return this October with a new single, ‘Strawberry Moon.’
Comeback performance
The singer will be performing this year at the Melon Music Awards 2021 (MMA) for the first time since 2017. In that year, her albums Palette and A Flower Bookmark 2 had won Best Album of the year, Best Song Writer Award, and Top 10 Artists at Melon Music Awards 2017. She also gave a touching and inspirational performance of ‘Dear Name,’ joined by a choir of almost 60 people who dreamed to be musicians.
IU’s performance for this year has a theme as well – a door that connects the end of her 20s with the beginning of her 30s. She will perform her hit ‘Strawberry Moon’ with an eight-member band accompanying her.
IU’s win at Inkigayo
The final episode of SBS’s Inkigayo had aired recently, and IU won for ‘Strawberry Moon’ once again.
The episode had MONSTA X performing ‘Rush Hour,’ Weki Meki performing ‘Siesta,’ and Younha with ‘Oort Cloud.’ Other performers were DKB, TWICE, LIGHTSUM, bugAboo, BLITZERS, Billie, ICHILLIN, ONEUS, EPEX, JUST B, Jeon So Mi, TO1, and Jo Hye Sun.
The final nominees were IU, aespa, and TWICE, out of which IU won.
