Iconic Dragon Ball Z Voice Actor Chris Ayres Continues to be Remembered

Chris Ayres tragically passed away

Sad news has come for all the Dragon Ball fans. Chris Ayres, the voice actor, has sadly passed away. The anime voice actor of Dragon Ball passed away on 18th October. The actor was 56 years old. The cause of death was due to the complications the actor faced because of the years-long battle from chronic pulmonary disease. In 2019, he had a double lung transplant. In July, he was hospitalized due to difficulties in breathing and weakness in the body. 

Chris Ayres is famously known for lending his voice in the English voice of the Dragon Ball Series. He voiced the character of Freiza for a decade. He was known for around 200 acting credits to his name. In 2017, he was diagnosed with end-stage cardio obstructive pulmonary disease.  His health updates were regularly shared on social media. The sad news was shared by his girlfriend and actor Krystal LaPorte through Twitter.

Funimation shared their thoughts by saying Rest In Peace and Thank you for all you have done for so many fans. And Adult Swim also shared their condolences expressing their sadness by saying RIP Chris Ayres, Frieza Forever.

He was known for iconic villain Freiza from 2009-2019 starting from Dragon Ball Z: Kai ending with Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. He also voiced the characters such as Corset in Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Kei Kurono in Gantz, Ushio in Saint Seya. He also delivered his performances in Tears to Tiara, Fairy Tail, Black Butler, Maburaho, Sengoku Basara. Ayres also served as scriptwriter and ADR Director in a number of English dubs. 

The actor’s last role came earlier this year in The Dog Park: Prank Calls.
