The three projects scored three wins each
Winners of the 79th Golden Globe Awards are being revealed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association following the private ceremony on Sunday. There is no hope for us to see the even either live or through streaming since it was not televised in any way, since the HFPA is making some major changes to include more diversity and address organizational shortfalls, caused mainly due to the journalists who cover Hollywood.
The winners
The film category comes first. Netflix’s The Power of the Dog won Best Motion Picture for Drama, and 20th Century Studios’ West Side Story won for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Both the films scored three wins respectively at the Golden Globe Awards 2021. As for TV, HBO’s Succession won for Best Drama, also with three wins and HBO Max’s Hacks won for Best Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globe Awards.
The other two wins for West Side Story includes Lead Actress – Musical or Comedy for Rachel Zegler, and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose. For The Power of the Dog, director Jane Campion won for directing and Kodi Smit-McPhee won for Supporting Actor.
The winners for Lead Actor – Drama and Lead Actress – Drama goes to Will Smith and Nicole Kidman for King Richard and Being the Ricardos respectively. Andrew Garfield won Lead Actor – Musical or Comedy for Tick, Tick…Boom!, Disney’s Encanto won for Best Animated Film, and Japan’s Drive My Car won in the Non-English Language category.
No celebrations
Due to the unique situation this year, there were no celebrity presenters or nominees at the awards show, and neither was there a red carpet. The results were announced by individuals who received donations from the HFPA got to announce the nominees and winners.
NBC also made it clear that it will not televise the Golden Globe Awards this year.
