    Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd and his actress wife Donna Dixon have announced their separation after 39 years of marriage. The couple gave the news exclusively to PEOPLE, but added that they share a “loving friendship.” They will continue to be co-parents, co-workers, and business partners. The couple are parents to Danielle, 32, Belle, 28, and Stella, 24. Let’s read in detail.

    Donna Dixon, 64 and Dan Aykroyd, 69, met while filming the 1983 movie Doctor Detroit. They married the same year. Afterwards, the beloved couple starred in Twilight Zone, Exit to Eden, The Couch Trip, and Spies Like Us. Aykroyd had even spoken to the Tampa Bay Times in 2014 about their successful marriage. He said that you have got to find the right person, look them in the eye, have them look back, and know their soul. Dan spoke highly of his now ex-wife, saying she is understanding and doesn’t mind dealing with his friends occasionally. He nicknamed her the White Goddess, while he himself is called the Green Demon. Before meeting Dixon, Aykroyd was engaged to the late Carrie Fisher.

    Dixon was born in Alexandria, Virginia. Before entering Hollywood, she was a model and pageant queen. Getting featured in Miss USA 1976 and Miss USA World 1977, she soon got scouted by Hollywood. One of her most prominent early roles was in Bosom Buddies alongside Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari.

    Dan Aykroyd was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and rose to fame through Saturday Night Live. He become a prominent figure after starring in the Ghostbusters movies alongside Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson. He even returned for a cameo in the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
