“We’re married under the eyes of God”
The marriage between Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder have been a running gag for years now. While all of the John Wick actor’s female co-stars gush about him, his connection with Ryder and Sandra Bullock is seen as something special.
But why are the two stars saying they are married? Read on.
It began with Dracula
Both Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder first starred together on the 1992 film Dracula, by Francis Ford Coppola. They starred as Jonathan and Mina Harker, and have a scene where they get married. In an interview with Esquire, Reeves said that the makers did a whole marriage ceremony with real priests.
He himself took some time to believe that they actually got married. It was director Coppola who contacted Ryder and told her that it actually happened, the priest did a full ceremony, and they were officially married. “So, I guess we’re married under the eyes of God,” the actor joked. Reeves also added that once in a while, he will get a text from Ryder saying, “Hello, husband.”

Next up is Sandra Bullock. The two had starred together in 1994’s Speed, and while they never dated, they did secretly crush on each together while filming. The actress spoke about her missed opportunity when she came to talk on The Ellen Show.
About Reeves, Bullock feels that he would be the kind of guy who would remain friends with every woman he’s ever dated. So if they did, it could’ve been a relationship that would’ve lasted. But she said it never got to that, but she still got to meet him from time to time, and is still completely in awe of him.
