The Witcher Season 4: Henry Cavill Exits Series and Netflix Appoints Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia

So long, White Wolf

Many might have seen the official announcement by Netflix, while others have seen the Instagram post by actor Henry Cavill. The news is sad – Henry will no longer star as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. After two seasons and a third that is yet to release, the actor will no longer be returning for the role. Instead, the role has gone to Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. So what caused Cavill to hang in his medallion and pass his sword to a new Witcher? Let’s find out.

Cavill said in his post that his journey as Geralt was filled with adventures and monsters, but alas, he will not be returning for season 4. He then spoke about Hemsworth taking on the mantle of the White Wolf. Addressing Geralt as one of the greatest literary characters as well as one of the most fascinating and nuanced of men, he will pass the torch with reverence to the young actor. He also advised Liam to five in and see what he can find, indicating that he make the character his own.

Cavill was a true delight to watch as the sour, grunting monster hunter who gets tasked with a responsibility that changes his life.

So why did Cavill exit The Witcher? Many believed straight away that it was due to the fact that he’s returning to the DCEU as Superman after the surprise cameo at the end of Black Adam. Perhaps his commitments with the character and the movies that are being planned left his schedule with less room for the series. Others believed he was not pleased with the writers changing the story and characters too much from the Witcher books and games. Either way, we will miss him.

The Witcher season 3 is believed to release sometime in summer 2023.
