Netflix also released a first look photo, showing Bullock as ex-con Ruth Slater
Netflix just revealed a first-look image of the upcoming film, The Unforgivable. The movie was announced in 2019, based on the British miniseries Unforgiven. The drama thriller is all set to come out this Fall. It follows a different plan from other Netflix originals. It will release on select theatres November 24, and will start streaming on Netflix from December 10.
The story
The first look image shows Bullock staring into a mirror. She plays Ruth Slater, an ex-con who had served 20 years for a heinous crime. The crime is not disclosed yet.
She is released to society after her sentence, but is harshly judged by her community. As the title suggests, nobody is willing to forgive her for what did. In order to atone for the wrong she did and earn forgiveness, Ruth decides to find her estranged younger sister, whom she had to leave behind.
Bullock spoke about her character in a recent interview with EW. She said that Ruth’s crime affected a lot of people, and there’s anger, sorrow, and bitterness associated with her release. Her journey to find her sister causes an inner turmoil with herself. On one hand, she’s her only family. But on the other, she kept thinking that her actions had caused enough trauma for her sister and others, and that she should let it go instead of harming everyone again.
All this will soon tie up with her crime, like her motivation, and the possible culprit behind everything.
Cast and crew
The film additionally includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, and Viola Davis. The film is directed by Nora Finscheidt. The screenplay is by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz, and Courtenay Miles.
