Netflix Releases Trailer & Premiere Date for ‘Bright: Samurai Soul’ – Reveals Interesting Plot

The anime will be a spin-off to the 2017 Will Smith movie

Netflix just dropped the first trailer of the spin-off anime for Bright, titled Bright: Samurai Soul. Netflix has been focusing on releasing new animes every year, but this definitely came as a surprise. The 2017 movie starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton wasn’t widely received, but it was enjoyable all the same. Secondly, the world they have created, mixing fantasy with reality was something to be applauded.

The anime takes us to Japane during the end of the Shogunate era and the start of the Meiji period. It’s directed by Kyohei Ishiguro and will have 3DCG animation.

Cast and story

The story is taking place far away, both in time and place, from the movie. It stars Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu as Izou, a one-eyed wandering samurai, Fred Mancuso as Raiden the orc, and Yuzu Harada as an elf named Sonya.

Netflix officially described the story as such: Between the fall of the Shogunate era and the rise of the Meiji era, a bright and powerful light emitted from a wand brings the Shogunate to an end. It was done to prevent any further bloodshed, and Japan prepares to transition to a new era.

Netflix

Izou, who is a Ronin who had lost his will to live, and Raiden, an orc who detests violence and murder and wants to lead an honest life, meets a young elf girl called Sonya at the same time.

Together, they go with Sonya to help her and her sacred wand to the land of elves way up north. They face opposition from the mysterious organisation called Inferni, who needs the wand to revive their Dark Lord.
