The Martial Arts in ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ is very different from the rest of the MCU

The movie contains real Kung Fu and marked a whole new beginning for the MCU

When Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings  was announced at Comic-Con, fans had but one concern: that the lead actor must know Kung Fu. For those who are not aware, Shang-Chi is known in the comics as the “Master of Kung Fu.”

I’m not aware if the Netflix Marvel shows had as much fans as the MCU. Probably not. It’s noticeable because the shows are more grounded. The heroes are working to keep the streets clean and not watching out for extraterrestrial invasions.

But that doesn’t mean the shows weren’t bad. For instance, Daredevil is still one of my favourite series ever. It delivered one of the best action sequences in the small screen. I’m one of the many who is hoping that Daredevil star Charlie Cox returns in No Way Home.

Anyway, let’s get back on topic. Following  Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Netflix produced Iron Fist. But Iron Fist failed in impressing us with its action. Aside from making Danny Rand a rather immature character, his fights were bad as well.

Lead star Finn Jones had very little martial arts experience prior to filming, and so did Shang-Chi star Simu Liu. But he had a will to make things happen.

Shang-Chi wears no mask, or a costume as fancy as other heroes. But he still has to make a powerful screen presence. In other words, his fighting should be so good, he must be regarded as a force to be reckoned with. Simu and the rest of the cast didn’t disappoint.

Not only did Shang-Chi become a good Marvel movie, it’s now one of the best Kung Fu movies as well. It has the best fight scenes in the entire MCU. Shang-Chi hasn’t catered to a single style of Kung Fu. His moves range from Wing Chun to Bajiquan. Watch the magic unfold in theatres now.
