Season one aired in 2016 and we haven’t received any word of it since
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is a South Korean historical romance drama that was adapted from the Chinese novel ‘Bu Bu Jing Xin’ by Tong Hua. The story is about a woman from the 21st century travelling back in time to the Goryeo era and wakes up in the body of a woman named Hae Soo. Hae Soo initially falls in love with the kind and gentle 8th Prince Wang Wook, but later falls for the fierce 4th Prince Wang So, who was feared by many in the nation. Her love gets mixed in the struggles of the royal family in a mad scramble to claim the throne.
The show provides the right mixture of love, struggles for power and politics as Hae Soo’s situation becomes more complex as more princes fall in love with her, and at the same time the royal family starts seeing her as a tool in their quest for the throne.
Why a second season hasn’t been announced yet
The show was something that the fans loved, but not the critics. They critiqued it for its performance, direction, and screenplay, despite the big budget and star-studded cast. But the fans were greatly impacted by the show and they demanded a second season. Some had even filed online petitions requesting SBS go bring the drama back. During an interview, Lee Joon-gi, who plays the 8th Prince stared that he will be acting once again with former co-star Lee Ji-Eun, which led fans to believe that the show was returning. But at this point, it’s highly unlikely that the series will be back. After all, season one aired in August 29, 2015 to November 1, 2016.
