About the Sherlock Holmes Shows

The series will be produced by Robert Downey Jr., whose iconic portrayal of the character in 2009 and 2011 is still talked about to this day. Downey will join Lionel Wigram, who produced the two films and received a story credit in the first one. They had originally planned a third movie with director Guy Ritchie but it never took place.

We are yet to see if Downey will reprise the role in any of the shows. Downey and Jude Law were a brilliant duo of Holmes and Watson, and we can never get enough of them. Warner Bros. Television, who produced the Sherlock series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is the main producer. Additional producers include Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell, also producing under Robert’s banner Team Downey. They continue to be under an overall deal with HBO.

The Franchise’s Success

HBO is bringing up attractive new shows every year so that their streamer beats their opposition. They already have the DCEU shows and movie lined up. Last year’s Suicide Squad and its spin-off, Peacemaker found great success on the service. After The Batman came out, HBO Max is working on a spin-off series with Colin Farrell’s Penguin, as well as an Arkham Asylum show. They also have the Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, and Game of Thrones franchises bringing in viewers.
