In the meantime, you might have to make do with GTA 5 online or its latest mods
I’m sure the vast majority of the gaming community had been expecting some sort of an update about Grand Theft Auto 6 to come out this year. After all, it’s been almost eight years since the last GTA came out. But sadly, it seems this year is going to be another dry spell for all of us.
According to a set of tweets by notorious Rockstar Games insider Yan2295, the game is very well in development, but we shouldn’t expect it to come out anytime soon. This goes against all the claims made last year where the leaker stated that the game has progressed well in development.
Last year, Jason Schreier, who was with Kotaku at the time but currently with Bloomberg, reported that the game was in early development, and clarified further in another tweet by saying that it was still years away.
Yan2295’s claims
Yan2295 has apparently earned a rep for being so good at leaking game info that publisher 2K Games had asked him to stop. Last year he went against Schreier’s reports and said that the game was much further along in development. But now he’s backing off from all those claims.
Sadly, we didn’t get any other information from Yan2295. If we go by Rock Star Games’s track record, it took them five years to develop GTA 5. After that, they worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 which landed in 2018. Assuming they started doing preliminary work on GTA 6 right after, we cannot hope for the game to land anytime before 2023.
So until then, players will have to make do with Grand Theft Auto Online or if you want to try something new, go with Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
