A Squid-Game level sensation
Showtime series Yellowjackets is one of the most-talked about series currently. The thriller show has gathered a massive fanbase in the course of its first season, with many creating Reddit and Discord pages just to discuss questions and theories. The critics loved it too, and Rotten Tomatoes have given the show a perfect 100%. Yellowjackets is a perfect mix of survival and psychological drama, teen girlhood, with a punk soundtrack to add more excitement.
The story so far
The show takes place in two timelines – the present day and 1996. In 1966, a New Jersey high school soccer team is travelling to Seattle for a national tournament when their plane loses control and crashes in the wilderness of Canada. The surviving members are left to fend for themselves for the next nineteen months, and at the same time the series gives us a look into their present lives in 2021 as well.
Season 2 announcement
Showtime aired the final episode of season 1 on January 16, and without wasting a second, green-lit season 2 of Yellowjackets. The creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson are now talking about everything we can expect when it arrives. On the question of what the story will be about, Lyle answered that one of the best things about the series is that we never know what’s about to happen from minute to minute. Timelines of the team and the survivors are revealed bit by bit to add to the excitement, and gives people little room to speculate the next event.
We are keeping this article spoiler free, so will not be discussing character deaths, and who has a chance of returning. One tiny piece of information will be that the teens are currently not close to escaping the wilderness, and winter is close at their heels. But both creators are firm that all questions will be answered and that they have no plans in dragging out the show.
So in short, not even the actors have any clue what will happen next. But we can expect another solid season when Yellowjackets appears for round two.
