The return of one of the greatest science fiction franchise
Written and directed by The Wachowskis, the Matrix franchise has aged gracefully. With a total of three movies, the franchise is undoubtedly one of the best science fiction franchises out there. The movie series contains three movies.
The first-ever movie of the series was released back in 1999, titled “The Matrix”. Following the success of the first movie two sequels were released, both in 2003, named “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions”. During the time of its release, “The Matrix” was very well received by the audience and is still considered to be the best one out of all Matrix films.
The two sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” did pretty well after the release. It was the success of these movies that paved the way for a potential new Matrix film. Even though the Wachowskis had no plans for a new movie back in 2003. They showed interest in a potential reboot or a sequel of the series recently. And on Tuesday, a teaser for a trailer was dropped giving fans a first look of the new movie, titled “The Matrix Resurrection.”
And a full-fledged trailer was released recently online.
It’s all in your mind Mr. Anderson
The trailer was released online by Warner Bros. on Thursday as promised. And the trailer shows the return of Neo and Trinity. But they’re both back in the virtual world and do not seem to remember each other.
The trailer shows that Neo is back in the Matrix and he is at a therapy session. At the session he sees a black cat, exactly like the first matrix movie. Thomas says that he’s having dreams and asks his therapist if he’s crazy. To which the therapist replies that they don’t use that world here. A glimpse of Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ character is also seen in the trailer. Jessica Henwick’s character is also shown in the trailer and is supposedly playing the role of Trinity, like the first movie.
Henwick’s character asks Neo to follow her in order to find the truth. Scenes from the original trilogy are also there in the trailer as flashbacks. “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane is played in the trailer as a reference to “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. “Alice in Wonderland” was the recurring concept of the original trilogy and is also seen in the new trailer.
Fans got sent down the rabbit hole after the release of the new trailer
The trailer has been out for almost 24 hours now and fans have already started theorising about the upcoming Matrix film. There are theories on the internet about how Trinity and Neo are alive after their demise in Revolution. But the most crazy and popular theory going on right now is that everything that was shown in the trailer is not real.
According to the events of Revolution, Humanity survived the attack on Zion, Trinity is dead, Agent Smith is destroyed and Neo sacrifices himself. Neo’s body is then taken by the Machines.
According to the theory, Trinity is still dead, Agent Smith is gone and Neo sacrificed himself but he managed to survive. And he is stuck inside a simulation that is not the matrix but something quite similar. And all of this is happening because the Machines are trying to turn Neo against Humanity or trying to get access to Zion through him.
The theory could be true as the scenes from the original trilogy are seen and the events of the trilogy are referenced quite frequently. Only time will tell if this is what actually happens or not. Fans will have to wait until December 22, 2021 in order to get answers.
