Violet Evergarden is an anime adapted from a light novel of the same name written by Kana Akatsuki. Season one of the anime ran from January 11, 2018 to April 5, 2018.
What is the story of Violet Evergarden?
The story follows Violet Evergarden, an Auto Memory Doll who acts like a ghostwriter for people who cannot write. She lost both her arms in the war and was given metal prosthetics as arms. Dietfried Bougainvillea finds her on an island and takes her in. He gives Violet as gift to his brother Gilbert to use her as a tool in the war. Gilbert instead teaches her to read and write and treats her like a human. She decides to become an Auto Memory Doll to understand the meaning of Gilbert’s last words ‘I Love You’.
Violet’s origins are unknown in the anime series.
An original video animation (OVA) titled “Surely, Someday You Will Understand “Love”” was released on July 4, 2019. It showed the events between episodes 4 & 5 of the anime series. Violet is hired by Irma, a famous opera singer to write a letter to a soldier.
A spin-off movie titled Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll was released on August 3, 2019.
What to expect from the Season 2 of Violet Evergarden?
Violet’s origins can be revealed in the next season. Gilbert dies in the first season, but Violet is hopeful that he is still alive. She, as well as the viewers are hopeful that Gilbert will return soon.
A movie was scheduled to release on April 24, 2020. But the release has been pushed ahead due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping this in mind, the second season of the anime series can be expected in late 2020 or early 2021.
