VH1: RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 12, gets renewed! Who will be America’s next drag superstar??

RuPaul’s Drag Race is a reality competition that has been quite popular. VH1, the platform on which the show has been aired since its 9th season, has renewed the show for its 12th season.

The show has helped put the drag community in public awareness and pull its culture into the mainstream. The show is a competition amongst drag queens, mentored by RuPaul, to search for “America’s next drag superstar.” The show also has a UK version also hosted by RuPaul.

RuPaul Charles is an American drag queen, singer, actor and television personality. He has been hosting, mentoring and judging the show since 2009, and has been awarded three Primetime Emmy Awards from 2016 to 2018 consecutively. Other judges on the show include Michelle Visage, Santino Rice, Ross Mathews, Carson Kressley, and many others. The show has had many celebrity judges too from Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Pamela Anderson, Kelly Osbourne, Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga, and many more.

With around 145 episodes and a renewed season, the show has been extremely popular amongst a wide range of audience. The show also has a related media, called RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars which too has been renewed by VH1 for a fifth season. The show has amalgamated fashion, music, drag, and modeling all into one. The show has an epic 14 Emmy nominations.

The show has been named such as a wordplay on drag queen and drag race. Drag queens are performance artists, mostly males, who dress in women’s clothes for entertainment purpose. The feminine features are overstated with over the top makeup, for a dramatic, satirical or comedic effect. Drag queens can be of any sexual orientation and gender identity.
