Kevin Feige took everyone by surprise when he announced that the Spider-Man character would no longer be a part of MCU. According to sources, the dispute is due to rift between Sony and Marvel’s parent company Disney. The issue is also mainly due to the partnership shared between the two.
What events led to the dispute?
After the huge success of ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’ Disney wants a greater share of money and also demanded a 50/50 split. The current deal between both the productions is that Disney would get a 5 percent profit of gross box office collections. Its also been an on-again, off-again relationship between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony Pictures. After the failure of ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ Sony agreed with Marvel in 2015. The deal was made because the character would appear in Marvel crossover films and Sony would maintain the rights and also do the financing. On the other hand, Marvel would produce the film and have cast rights.
Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. (1/3)

Sony’s future expectation regarding Marvel and Kevin Feige:
Sony Pictures’ director took to Twitter to share their thoughts on this matter. They tweeted that it is a very disappointing thing to happen and they wish Kevin Feige would return in future as the lead producer. Spidey is one of the most loved characters of MCU. The two Spider-Man movies under Marvel grossed nearly $2 Billion worldwide. Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man gained much appreciation.
According to sources, Tom Holland has at least one contract remaining with the MCU. Also, director Jon Watts who directed both The Spider-Man movies has a bit more to do for Marvel. Now, the interesting thing to see here is whether Sony will go to Marvel once again or do they feel they are better off without them.
