After a successful run of 8 years, Arrow aired its last episode on Tuesday. The show that was once labelled as the superior superhero projection on television witnessed a fall on the quality though nothing beyond salvation. The finale of the series was as fitting as the show of this stature deserved especially in the wake of the death of Oliver Queen.
And this time it was a permanent farewell to Oliver Queen, the stolid bowman played by Stephen Amell. He was indeed gone without any resurrection like other times previously, however, the final episode couldn’t really have been completed without Stephen who had been the soul of the show as his appearance was well added by the means of flashbacks, which were new additions and an afterlife final sequence.
The final episode focused on the effects and changes that Oliver’s sacrifice caused especially to his Star City, which was free from crime and flourished in all aspects. The course of history was changed to save other characters like Moira, Tommy, and Quentin.
The final episode tried to sum up everything, close all the loops including bringing Felicity back to bid farewell to Oliver, both in that life and in the next, as the series move towards the closure.
And towards the major development of the finale that paved a way for larger implications was the final and definite end to the storyline that viewers were being teased about for the last 3 seasons, Green Lantern. John Diggle finally gets the approval to become Green Lantern. The last moments of the show have fans witnessing the fall of the ring on earth. While the ring wasn’t explicitly shown, the green glow of it makes it clear that he’s meant to take up the Lantern mantle, even if he’s not a comic book Lantern specifically, in the end.
The finale of Arrow might not be what everyone was hoping for especially the fans of Oliver Queen but as a show, it did fairly well to end such a larger-than-life story with assembling of all the characters and a happy ending for everyone that the Arrow universe deserved.
