Today, Netflix has signed a legal lease to keep New York City’s iconic Paris Theatre open and will use the space to open its single-screen to play some of its most prestigious films. Netflix is having major plans for major theatrical distribution now, but only to showcase their films.

It seems that there is a big reason, so Netflix has a plan to get into theatrical distribution. As very recently, AMC Theatres and Regal have also refused to stream Netflix originals, it might be a reason to get into a decision of having its theatres now.

The New York iconic theatre was shuttered in August, and Netflix requests to reopen it for a limited time to showcase Noah Baumbach’s new movie, Marriage Story.
Though the terms of the lease are not yet disclosed, like for how much time Netflix will be using the place or what kind of movies and series will be screened. Netflix is mainly planning to use the space for specials and possibly ongoing series related to its films.
