The sequel is currently in early development
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is officially returning to direct the movie’s sequel, and has also been placed in charge of an unnamed MCU series for Disney Plus.
The director has signed an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu‘s Onyx Collective, through which he can develop TV projects for both Marvel Studios and Onyx across all platforms.
Kevin Feige’s statement
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, who played a big part in these movies coming to life, has stated that Destin is an amazing collaborator who had brought in a unique storytelling with Shang-Chi. He added that the director also has intriguing ideas to bring many other stories to life through their Disney+ shows, and that they can’t wait to get to work.
Tara Duncan, president of Freeform and Hulu’s Onyx Collective has stated that Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with an impeccable taste in material. Onyx Collective is currently busy improving their roster, and with his help, they can bring in an exciting edition of content that can be appreciated by the global audience.
According to Variety, not a lot is known about the kind of show Destin is doing for Disney+, but sources have revealed that it is a comedy.
The Shang-Chi experience
Before Shang-Chi, Cretton had directed movies like Short Term 12, Just Mercy, and The Glass Castle among others, all of which were unique and beautiful stories. However, the Marvel movie helped him attain worldwide fame. Cretton admits to that, saying that working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the others from Marvel Studios was one of the highlights of his life, and he couldn’t be more excited for joining Onyx Collective.
We will now wait for more news on the director’s next projects.
