Punisher Revival For Disney+ Confirmed By Rosario Dawson, Jon Bernthal To Return

Dawson expressed her interest to work with Bernthal as she has not been able to so far

The MCU has begun expanding its storytelling in Phase 4 by releasing shows on Disney+. However, it has been doing it since 2015, before being entirely adopted by Disney. One of those shows is The Punisher, which aired on Netflix along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Rosario Dawson, who starred as Claire Temple in the Netflix Marvel shows, has now hinted that Jon Bernthal will be returning as the gun-toting anti-hero.

Dawson attended the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this weekend and shared the bit of news that fans had been eagerly waiting for. Her character Claire Temple was basically Netflix’s version of Marvel character Night Nurse, who started by helping out Daredevil when he was gravely injured, before being associated with the other street-level heroes. However, she didn’t make an appearance on The Punisher. Dawson expressed her interest in working on the series and asked fans for their support.

Bernthal truly shone as Frank Castle, the former Marine who lost his family in a shooting incident, turning into the Punisher, a lone vigilante who guns down criminals in New York. He made his entry in Daredevil season two, before getting his own solo series, which ran for two seasons before getting canceled. His return has been something fans have been seriously waiting for.

While many wanted to see Bernthal return, they were concerned that Disney will not give the character his true justice. The series has been much more bloody and violent, beating even Daredevil. But seeing as they are moving forward with Deadpool 3, and starting work on the new Daredevil: Born Again series, we can expect them to maintain some levels of the Rated-R nature of the Punisher.
