Marvel Studios is looking to begin the production in 2023!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set to release Eternals, but ahead of that some other exciting information has arrived. Reportedly, Marvel is getting ready to begin production on four new projects for phase 4 of the MCU. Phase 4 began in 2021 with Black Widow, and fully kicked into gear with a total of two films and 3 Disney+ shows in 2021. However, 2021 releases are not done, because we have Eternals, the Hawkeye series, and Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead of us.
Marvel had some sad news last week after it had to push every project after Spider-Man back by a couple of months. The new information will hopefully cheer fans up.
New projects
As per a report by the GWW, the MCU will begin production on a Thunderbolts film in 2023, along with the previously mentioned Fantastic Four film. And after Shan-Chi brought back hope to the pandemic box office, it’s only fair that he gets a sequel. Shang-Chi 2 will also begin production in 2023. We will also get a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spin-off starring Danai Gurira’s Okoye. We will also get a movie on Xandarian hero Nova, whose movie can arrive in 2024 or 2025. Originally meant to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, the idea was scrapped and the character was remoulded for his own movie.
While both Shang-Chi and Okoye are established characters, the Thunderbolts are something entirely new. The team is essentially the Suicide Squad of Marvel, and consists of many villains. The current Thunderbolts line-up is led by Kingpin, and has Taskmaster, Crossbones, Typhoid Mary, Shocker, Whiplash, Rhino, and Kraven the Hunter. Some of these have appeared in the MCU, but most are Spider-Man villains and are hence owned by Sony. Kraven will get his solo movie in 2023.
A new opportunity
Marvel has many iconic villains, and they have already established many teams, the latest being Eternals. If the Thunderbolts movie gets a star-studded line-up, with some heavy-hitting villains, the MCU will have yet another gem in their hands.
