Bill Paxton’s family to receive $1 million in partial settlement
The Los Angeles Superior Court received some court documents on Wednesday regarding American actor Bill Paxton’s case. According to the documents, the General Anaesthesia Specialists Partnership’s attorneys are seeking for an approval of a settlement.
The medical group reached a partial settlement with Paxton’s family for $1 million. This settlement was for the wrongful death/negligence lawsuit the family filed against the anaesthesiologist group after the actor’s death in 2017.
Was the medical group responsible for Paxton’s death?
The actor and filmmaker went through a heart surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. And the above mentioned medical group was involved with the medical procedure. However, just after 2 weeks of his surgery, Paxton died on February 25, 2017 when he was 61.
The anaesthesiologist group directly denied any direct responsibility in the Twister actor’s death. But according to the court documents, they were ready to offer a reasonable compensation so that the defendant doesn’t have to go through an expensive and time consuming litigation.
What did the lawsuit claim?
Paxton’s widow Louise Paxton and their children Lydia and James Paxton filed the lawsuit. The family claims in the lawsuit that Cedars Sinai Medical Center hid the required information from them regarding the risks in the surgery and/or were unable to explain the treatment adequately.
Apart from this, the family also claimed that the hospital didn’t let them know that the surgical approach used on Paxton was highly risky and unconventional.
Furthermore, they made an accusation that Dr. Khoynezhad was not present in the hospital and did not arrange for anyone to cover for him while he was away. Hence, when Paxton was suffering from complications, there was a delay in treatment leading to fatal damage.
The family’s attorney Bruce Broillet said that the Apollo 13 actor and his family trusted the physicians and the staff at the hospital. But due to their negligence and actions, Paxton had to lose his life.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the lawsuit will take place on September 19.
