Keanu Reeves Shockingly Departs Hulu’s ‘Devil in the White City,’ Massive Replacement Hunt Already Began

The series is being produced by Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Di Caprio

It has only been two months since Keanu Reeves was confirmed as the lead in Devil in the White City, an ambitious project that is currently in development at Hulu. However, the John Wick star has exited the project. The series has been receiving a lot of attention, especially since Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are on board as producers.

Devil in the White City would’ve been the biggest TV commitment that Keanu Reeves signed up for. The reason for his exit is currently unknown, but this, along with the actor’s other projects, could be a reason. After all, Reeves has confirmed to return for Constantine 2 and might even be cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For the time being, reps of Hulu or Keanu Reeves have not given a reason for the exit.

The show was originally planned as a movie at Paramount Pictures, but various things prevented it from taking flight. DiCaprio was selected for the lead role at the time since he bought the rights. After being stuck in development hell for over a decade, it has landed at Hulu. Leo, with his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson, will exec produce the series along with Scorsese. It will be directed by Todd Field.

The Story

Devil, based on the Erik Larson novel of the same name, centers on an architect named Daniel H. Burnham, the role that Keanu Reeves was to play. The story takes place at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, the grounds where Dr. H.H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer, built the infamous Murder Castle.

Reeves’ role is currently being recast, with Holmes’ role still not finalized.
