Show director Alan Taylor confirms production will take place in New Orleans
Director Alan Taylor, who had previously directed episodes of Game of Thrones provided information on his next TV series directorial. Taylor will direct the TV adaptation of Anne Rice’s bestselling 1976 novel Interview With the Vampire. The novel was the first in Rice’s long-running Vampire Chronicles series. The book got its first live-action adaptation with the 1994 movie starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst.
All about the series
AMC announced earlier this year that the series will consist of eight episodes. Australian actor Sam Reid will portray Lestat, earlier played by Cruise. Pitt’s role of Louis will go to Game of Thrones star Jacob Anderson. Taylor will direct the pilot episode and spoke to Collider that filming is all set to start in December at New Orleans. Taylor said that he was excited to begin work on the project due to his “personal relationship with the book.”
Other adaptations
Interview With the Vampire won’t be the only show we are getting. AMC had acquired rights to 18 of Rice’s novels, so we can see the sequels such as The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. The Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy is also expected to get its live-action series. The 1994 movie was a big hit, and there continues to be a devoted fan following for the other books. The shows will get their own set of fans as soon as it airs. AMC can start their own vampire franchise for the small screen, just like the big screens have the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With production to begin in December, we cannot expect the series to air anytime before late 2022 or early 2023.
