The 2016 movie was one of the biggest hits of the year
As per a report by Variety, a series adaptation for Hell or High Water is currently being developed at Fox.
While the cast is yet to be determined, the one-hour long Western drama series has hired Jessica Mecklenburg (Stranger Things, Dopesick) to write and executive produce the series.
The story
The 2016 movie, Hell or High Water, directed by David Mackenzie and written by Taylor Sheridan was one of the year’s biggest hits, and earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. It tells the story of two brothers, Toby and Tanner Howard who rob two branches of the Texas Midland Bank in order to save their family ranch. A ruthless oil tycoon, who is on a mission to plunder a West Texas ranching community target their ranch among the others. However, they soon find two Texas Rangers hot in their heels, and have multiple roadblocks to worry about.
Hell or High Water was nominated multiple times at the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. It later received Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay.
Production teams
We have not received word if the upcoming Fox series will follow the movie’s storyline, or make something entirely new out of the concept.
Additional producers for the Hell or High Water series includes SK Global, who also produced the movie, and Fox Entertainment. John Penotti, Sidney Kimmel, Marcy Ross, and Charlie Corwin of SK Global will be producing, along with Rachel Shane and Gigi Pritzker of Madison Wells and Julie Yorn, David Mackenzie, and Carla Hacken as additional producers.
