Gaten Matarazzo of Netflix’s Stranger Things has become an example at such a younger age! He is undergoing his fourth Cleidocranial Dysplasia related surgery: ‘This is a big one!’

Gaten Matarazzo is an American actor and singer born on September 8, 2002. He started his career on the Broadway stage as Benjamin in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and as Gavroche in Les Miserables. Currently, he is been acting as Dustin Henderson in Netflix’s science – fiction – horror series Stranger Things. He is also hosting Netflix’s show Prank Encounters. He has been a member of the indie rock band Work in Progress as the lead singer and gave several performances.

Why is Gaten Matarazzo has to undergo surgery?

He has been suffering from a genetic disorder named as cleidocranial dysplasia, in this disorder a person gets affected as the body is unable to grow bones and teeth.

Matarazzo revealed on Instagram that he is going to have his fourth surgery, and this surgery is very critical. Matarazzo is just 17 and he was born without collar bones and without teeth, forcing him to wear dental appliances. This disorder is the rarest and only one out of millions suffer this.

In his current series Stranger Things, the directors Matt and Ross Duffer, allowed the defect to be the part of the character’s identity. And just because of his disorder his character became unique. And the main reason to keep this character was to spread awareness in the society about this disorder.

Answering the question of the host, Gaten replied that there was a tough time when he was not getting work just because of his lips, the teeth situation and also his height.

Gaten is the example to the society as he is suffering from the disorder then also he is able to earn for his own. He doesn’t look upon his weakness and just works hard. He has been organizing some camps in which the people were given knowledge about the disorder and how to get it cured.
