Disney is planning a theatrical release for its upcoming comic book films
Disney made it official today that it is prepping an exclusive theatrical release for its upcoming new comic book films. After the massive success of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” at the US Box office, Disney will release Eternals and The King’s Man among its other films exclusively in theatres.
What led to this decision?
Undoubtedly for a while, the covid-19 pandemic has made it impossible for films to hit the theatre screens. While there were plenty of OTT platforms available, the showrunners didn’t seem quite enthusiastic about it. As a result, the majority of show makers postponed the releases.
Recently Disney released “Shang-Chi” in theatres. The film proved itself one of the best-performed in the pandemic era. In one of the earnings calls in August, CEO Bob Chapek has proposed a 45-day theatrical release of Shang-Chi. However, according to him, this was only an interesting experiment.
Given that the experiment was a success, Disney is planning to release Eternals exclusively in theatres on November 5. Nevertheless, Disney’s plan for Encanto is a little different. The film will run for 30 days in theatres before being shifted to Disney Plus.
What are the upcoming films of Disney?
