Dave Chappelle gifted the people of Ohio an evening of happiness with ‘Nothing Can Get Us Down’ on his birth anniversary.

A benefit concert was hosted by Dave Chappelle in Dayton, Ohio to support the survivors and families of victims of the mass shooting that took place in the town a few weeks ago. The concert took place on Sunday, August 25, 2019.

David Khari Webber Chappelle is a stand-up comedian of American origin. He is also famous for his acting and writing skills. The comedian has received many prestigious awards which include two Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards. His infamous comedy sketch series ‘Chappelle’s Show’ (2003) made him more popular amongst the ordinary folks. He was titled as the “comic genius of America” by Esquire in 2006. In 2017, Chappelle was ranked 9th by ‘Rolling stone’ in their “50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time”. In 2019, he was honored with the ‘Mark Twain Prize for American Humor,’ America’s highest comedy honor.

 

On August 4, Sunday, 2019 a mass shooting shook the people of Dayton, Ohio. Around ten people lost their lives, and 27 more were severely injured. Last Sunday, August 26, people of the Oregon District (where the incident took place) gathered in the sight of the shoot to remember and mourn for the people who lost their lives in the tragedy. In the memory of these people, on Sunday an event was organized in the town of Dayton, Ohio which was hosted by Chappelle. Distinguished faces attending the event included Jon Stewart and Steve Wonder, who shared the stage with the comedian. Chappelle spends the evening of his birth anniversary to bring a smile of the faces of the suffers.
The benefit event was organized at the Gem City Shine. Nan Whaley, the Mayor of Dayton, named August 25 as the Dave Chappelle Day, to honor the comedian. A vast crowd attended the event. According to Chappelle, 120,000 people were present to make the event a success. The numbers are not yet confirmed. However, around 20,000 tickets were given away.
